The episode in general was pretty good. An interesting, very sci-fi plot is always existent but this time it was bigger than ever. The whole idea of an opening in space back in time to the coincidental year of Clark's birth and exactly in front of the planet Krypton is very sci-fi. And though it was highly improbable the guys at Smallville played it out very well.
Clark. The obvious main character here is Clark. He went back in time, pretended he never existed, got all dressed up (still no tights), and even died in this episode. He even met his replacement, which I still don't understand (but I'll talk about that in a second.) Tom did a great job at acting in this episode, even while directing. Yes, for those who didn't know, Tom directed yet another Smallville episode. Clark's search for Lana continues, but he's keeping the faith.
Clark (alternate universe version): This Clark, according to spoilers posted on Kryptonsite, was supposed to be named Chris Kent. Did he do the name-change himself? I don't get how Martha and John could have had a son, she was barren... oh wait! The light just came on! I totally forgot that she was barren due to the effects of the first meteor shower. Okay, no more problems with new Clark (other than the name change).
Lois. She had some great scenes this time. I'd been hoping for another episode that really shows off Erica's acting ability and this was it! Lois' wit and smooth crude humor are key elements to the funny Lois character. I love that Lois gave Clark his new look, it was almost ironic. The outfit that hid Clark from Lois in the comics is the outfit she gave him.
Chloe, she took the beginning and ending and that's about it; but, seeing as she got a huge episode recently, I think Allison was okay with that. I liked her hair better in the alternate universe. Maybe her character will bring that style to this universe. That was a great choice to have the differences in the character appear not just by their stories but their appearances too. Like, for example, Lois' hair was strait in the AU and then curly back home. Anyways, Allison did a good job at Chloe, as always.
Jimmy. He may think he's tough but at least he knows his limits. I liked the look on his face when he was being complimented by Clark. It was flattery and shock all rolled into one little, round face. I also liked the scene where he tried to stand up to Clark. His line "well, that a good reason", when Clark picked him up, was well done and very funny. Then he shifted his shoulders to fix his shirt and tightened his jaw to make himself feel a bit more confident in his "macho-wanna-be" attitude.
The "Character we didn't expect to see on the show again". Horrible choice. I don't know who plays Sheriff Adams, but she is my least favorite actress. She is so ugly and so old that (note: I don't have a problem with old people, and I don't believe in Euthanasia, in case you were wondering) she should probably consider taking up the job of retirement. But they put her back in, and I'm sure she was glad to be back.
Lex. President is not fitting for him, in my opinion. His manipulation of Kara was very true to his character, But if he never met Clark wouldn't he still be just a spoiled rich kid, not the evil Lex we've all come to ha- ... er... I mean love? Weird.
Kara. Laura is hott, but she can't really act. She does okay sometimes but then other times she just stinks. But still, she's been a good character to watch and hopefully she'll grow to mature in her acting ability like everyone else on the show has. Still, I can't wait to see what happened to her.
I have to say that this was a pretty good episode. I'm gonna give it 4 out 5 glowing "octagon keys".
